Jack Pattinson - Chair of Governors

Responsible for: Finance, Teaching and Learning (including interventions)

Hello! My name is Jack and I’m so pleased to be joining Light Years School as Chair of Governors. I was fortunate enough to meet Dan and the brilliant team during the summer holidays and have been so excited about all that Lightyears School represents. My journey into education started because of my own experiences in school. I was a young person who stood out like a sore thumb because the way I experienced the world was a little different to most. Unfortunately, the lack of understanding my school had for me meant that my time in school was a very challenging time in my life. I became a governor during my A Levels so I could make sure that my experience of school wasn’t the same for everybody. Throughout my career, I’ve had the joy of experiencing a variety of roles in classrooms, education delivery and developing new alternative learning provisions for children who need a different approach to education to offer them happy, successful and individual experiences. Now I spend the majority of my time delivering training across the country to education staff, helping them to best support the children in their care. I am truly excited about the journey that Light Years School is on and feel honoured to be a part of that journey. I look forward to getting to know you all soon, and as always, if the governing body can be of any help to you - please get in touch.

Naseem Akhtar

Responsible for: Safeguarding, LAC, PLAC, Policy & Processes

 Katie Viola

Responsible for: Health and Safety, Staff CPD

I am proud to serve as a governor for Light Years Education. As Headteacher of St Columba C of E Primary School, where Light Years is co-located, I am deeply committed to inclusive education and supporting children with a wide range of needs. My experience includes leading St Columba from Ofsted ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Good’, achieving Centre of Excellence status for inclusion, and developing strong alternative provision for pupils who find traditional mainstream education overwhelming. I also provide SEND training and support across DCAT and other Hampshire schools. I am passionate about ensuring every child receives the right support to thrive both academically and emotionally, and my role as governor at Light Years strengthens my understanding and collaboration between specialist and mainstream education.

Chelsea Lovell

Responsible for: SEND, Inclusion and Accessibility (including pupil premium)

Hi, I’m Chelsea and I’m so delighted to be a Governor at Light Years School! I am currently on a journey to a new career, on the Civil Service Fast Stream. However, for around 10 years prior to this I worked within the education sector as a Maths Teacher/Tutor. During my time as a teacher, I had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings. My main passion is supporting students in SEN settings, and this became my focus. I started my own tutoring business, where many of my students had additional needs. I spent time supporting them and building their confidence, in return their confidence in maths grew! I wanted the opportunity to continue to support students and their families, even though I am no longer in the teaching profession. Being a part of the Light Years Governing team is the perfect opportunity to do this!

Flo Fyler

Responsible for: Curriculum Development and Progress, Interventions and Support

I’m honored to be part of the Light Years School community and grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such an inspiring and forward-thinking environment. I’m passionate about creativity, leadership, and fostering a sense of belonging - values that are deeply embedded in Light Years’ approach to education. I hope to play a small part in supporting the school’s continued growth and success, helping to strengthen the connections that make it such a special place to learn and work.

Professionally, what began as a career supporting C-suite leaders has evolved into a passion for driving connection, communication, and client experience. As a Marketing Manager at WPP Open X, I bring that focus to life through integrated marketing, internal communications, client experience and engagement. My work centers on leadership strategy, collaboration, and sustainable growth, ensuring creativity and clarity are at the heart of everything we do.

Outside of work, I’m a mother to Lettie and twins, Wilf and Sephy, living in London and proudly one of five siblings. Family is at the heart of everything I do, shaping my approach to both work and life: being kind, building strong relationships, fostering collaboration, staying grounded, and working hard whilst having fun.

Jade Sparkes

Responsible for: Governor CPD

Hi, I am Jade and I am the elected Staff Governor for Light Years School. I am employed as an Inclusion Pathway Teacher and love nothing more than hands-on, multi-sensory learning experiences. During my time as a teacher, I have worked predominantly in specialist settings and pride myself on building strong relationships with the children I work with. Being part of the Light Years School Governing team allows me to have further insight into the running of the school, and share valuable staff feedback to the Governing team. I am really excited to continue to support the school's growth and development.

Dan Tresman

Responsible for: Independent School Standards and Compliance

Hi, I'm Dan and I am thrilled to be part of the Governing Body at Light Years School. I am also the Chair of the Proprietary Board and Founder of Light Years Education and it is my responsibility to make sure Light Years School is a wonderful, nurturing and safe place to be for all the pupils and the staff team.  I love visiting Light Years School and seeing the children learning new things, feeling safe and being happy in their school and I am honoured to be part of it. I work alongside the staff team to ensure all the pupils feel positive about coming to school. I'm always up for a game of tag in the playground too!
